A former chairmanship aspirant of the People’s Democratic Party PDP in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State, Mr Inalegwu Ogebe, 35 of Igbanomaje community, is in the police net for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl.
According to a police report, the accused was said to have lured the victim to Eloid Hotel on Bongos Ikwe Avenue in Otukpo, under the pretext that he was going to offer her a job when he forcefully had sexual intercourse with her.
The police further said the case was reported by the victim’s mother and the information given to them by the manager of the Hotel where the alleged crime was committed, led to the arrest of the accused where he had run into hiding.
The Otukpo Divisional Police Officer, Bawa Yahaya who confirmed the report on Monday, said the victim was already undergoing medical treatment and that investigation was still ongoing.
Corereporters report that the DPO, cautioned parents against interfering with the judicial process and while expressing displeasure over the development, stressed that so long as he remains in charge of the police in the area, he would not compromise.
