Senator Gershom Bassey, representing Cross River South Senatorial district at the Nigeria Senate has commended the government of Cross River State led by His Excellency, Sir Ben Ayade for his pro-activeness in tackling Coronavirus in the state.
Sen. Bassey also called on well-meaning sons and daughters of Cross River State to support the Gov. in tackling the novel pandemic headlong with the view to curbing the spread of the pandemic within the state.
The Senate Committee chairman on FERMA, Sen. Bassey made this commendation and appeal in an interview with newsmen on Thursday in Abuja.
According to him, “The CRS government, led by Sir Ben Ayade has done quite well in terms of managing the covid-19 pandemic. Remember, the CRS government was the first to talk about wearing facemask and the first also to embark on mass production of facemask before other states copied.
“What I am particularly encouraged by is the government response to every facet of the pandemic onslaught. And of course, now with the ease down of inter-states transport and the coming of the pandemic in the state, the government has continue to encourage more testing, and encourage more of the preventing measure, so i think everything will be okay with the pro-activeness of Ayade led government,” Sen Bassey opined.
Sen. Bassey further noted that the government of the state has continued to be responsible for containing the pandemic, adding that he is sure that they will continue to do so until no case is found in the state again.
He said, “Having cases of Covid -19 or not is not an issue because there is no pride in being covid-19 free, my point is that we should not focus on whether we have Covid-19 or not because i think that is a trivial issue, as far as i am concern, the main issue is the way we are reacting to how to manage the pandemic, because everybody may have Covid-19, but the main issue is how are we managing it.
“We have seen it in other countries where they have successfully managed the covid-19 and where some have irresponsibly managed the pandemic and the devastated effect. So, in all, I believe the CRS government has been very responsible in managing the pandemic.”
Meanwhile, as at Thursday, five confirmed cases of Covid—19 pandemic have been announced in Cross River State by the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC). Out of the five cases; only one case is still on admission, three cases have been discharged and one death recorded.
