We are targeting over N500bn in 2023 from auctioning 5G spectrums-prof.Danbatta

The Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigeria Communication Commission ( NCC) Prof.Umar Danbatta says,the Nigeria communication Commission (NCC) will generate over #500n in 2023 from auctioning 5G Spectrums.

Prof. Danbatta stated this during an interactive meeting on 2023-2025 MTEFFSP, organized by the Senate committee on finance at the National Assembly on Tuesday in Abuja.

According to him, the projected revenue would be realised from auctioning of two 5G spectrums, saying that the bidding process for auctioning of the spectrum for 2023 had began.

He says, NCC had generated #257 billion in the first quarter of 2022,while #195 billion was remitted to government coffers.

Danbatta further said from April to August, #318 billion was generated, while #214 was remitted.

According to him, broadband Penetration in Nigeria, stood at 44 percent, adding that about 150 million Nigerians have access to the internet, with over 80 million having access to high-speed internet.

He says,the target was to hit 75 percent Penetration in 2025,adding that it was hopeful of achieving 50 percent Penetration by end of2022.

He advised Nigerians to make use of the 112 emergency national number to report issues of emergency like fire outbreak, accidents, among others and toll free number 622 to lodge complaints on issues relating to drop calls.

Responding, the chairman senate committee on finance, Senator.Solomon Adeola said the Senate would continue to encourage NCC to improve its revenue generation profile to Federal Government.

He further stated that NCC will help in facilitating the process of other revenue generation agencies via its operations, where necessary.
