Ejike Ugoaja and his entourage during the award ceremony in Abuja
Nigeria basketball Star, Ejike Ugboaja and the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, FCT Council, Mr Emmanuel Ogbeche on Wednesday bagged a prestigious Security award in Nigeria.
Ugboaja received the award in recognition of his contrition to curtailing Security challenges in Nigeria via his foundation (Ejike Ugboaja Foundation) scholarship to over two thousand Nigerian youths to study in the United State of America and play professional basketball and American football.
Ugboaja who happens to be the only player that has been drafted to the NBA has graciously lifted young Nigerians off the streets across the country in the face of the security situation in Nigeria, especially the Northeast zone.
Apparently, he is going into partnership with various State governors and legislators as well as philanthropists like himself to help take the multitude of youths off the streets in order to have a free of crime society.
The former NBA Star thanked the organisers of the awards for recognising his little way of giving back to society.
According to Ugboaja, “This award is good and it Will spur me the more to continue doing what we’ve been doing by empowering our youths through scholarship and playing professional basketball and American football.
In the same vein, Emmanuel Ogbeche, Chairman Nigeria Union of Journalists FCT Council bagged the Defender of Journalism Profession Award.
Meanwhile, the erudite chairman of the NUJ, FCT council used the opportunity to call on Nigerians to join hands in the process of providing security for our communities, while stressing the need for community policing.
“Security is everyone’s business, so I think it will be right for every Nigerian to join the process of providing security in our surroundings,” Ogbuche said.
