The Executive Secretary, Management and Staff of the National Human Rights Commission has mourned the founder of CLEEN Foundation, Innocent Chukwuma whose transition to the great beyond remains a shock to the commission.
The statement by the Deputy Director, Corporate Affairs and External Linkages Department, Fatimah Agwai Mohammed, said while he lived, he was passionate about police reform. A patriotic and selfless Nigerian who dedicated his life to the promotion of public safety and security, all in defence of human rights. He was truly a friend of the NHRC.
According to the statement, “His death is indeed a big blow, coming at a time the nation needs him to use his skills to contribute to the amendment of the Police Service Act which he championed.
“His knowledge and contributions in advancing the course of human right in Nigeria will be greatly missed.
Chukwuma will be remembered for his tenacity in the fight for the right of the less privileged, “He was indeed the voice of the voiceless.”
“The death of Mr. Chukwuma who was until recently West African Head of Ford Foundation has undoubtedly created a vacuum that will be difficult to fill.
“It is our prayer that the Almighty God will console his family and associates, granting them the fortitude to bear this huge and irreparable loss,” the statement stated.
The 55-year-old civil society leader died on Saturday after a brief illness.
