The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council has pledged media support to members of the National Association of Public Procurement Practitioners to enable them to achieve their main objective of entrenching transparency in the procurement system.
Chairman of NUJ FCT Council, Comrade Emmanuel Ogbeche pledged support in Abuja while receiving members of the association who were on a courtesy visit to the council on Thursday.
Speaking during the visit, Comrade Ogbeche who assured on providing a media platform for the group to explore in reaching a wide range of Nigerians urged them to always focus on adding value to their activities.
Core Reporters report that Ogbeche said the visit is desired for better synergy given the fact that NUJ FCT is open to any partnership that will enhance national development.
He informed that the council was ready to partner with them in checking the abuse of procurement in the system lamenting that corruption has been taken to another level without punishment.
He cautioned them against using the association as a means of holding MDAs to ransom, but to always see how they can add value for a better nation and society.
Ogbeche tasked them to set the template for the government on how to get procurement right in our nation, while expressing optimism that the group will succeed.
Earlier, the National President of the association, Mr. Emem Obong Kaniko said the visit was to know how they can partner with NUJ towards contributing their quota to national development through a transparent procurement system.
He said their main objective was to promote transparency in procurement in MDAS and give corporate identity to procurement professionals in Nigeria among others.
He noted that their members were internal stakeholders in the procurement system while the press belongs to external stakeholders hence the need for seeking the NUJ support.
